EastEnders’ Reiss Coldwell (Jonny Freeman) turned k.i.l.l.e.r in shock scenes that aired on Wednesday – but soap fans have already ‘worked out’ someone else will go down for his crimes.
In recent weeks, the bumbling Walford resident has found himself in increasing amounts of debt, amid the cost of his and partner Sonia Fowler’s (Natalie Cassidy) IVF treatment, and his wife Debbie’s care home bills.
After realising that a plan to fleece Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) would fail as Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) was on to him, Reiss then made a deadly decision.
As he visited a comatose Debbie, viewers saw Reiss smother his wife to death with a pillow.
However, many EastEnders fans think that Sonia will be the one who ends up wrongly going down for Debbie’s m.u.r.d.e.r, after several clues pointed to the potential storyline.
Firstly, detectives Jack Branning (Scott Maslen) and Callum Highway (Tony Clay) overheard her in the market telling ex-husband Martin Fowler (James Bye) it would be better if Debbie ‘slipped away’.
She then visited Debbie in her care home, where she was seen touching her neck and repositioning the pillow that Reiss eventually used to k.i.l.l h.e.r.
As Sonia left the home, she was also berated by a carer for having not signed in when she arrived, with the carer questioning how she’d managed to get in.
‘OH MY GOD! Sonia will be charged with Debbie’s m.u.r.d.e.r and end up having the baby in prison,’ one fan posted on X (formerly Twitter).
‘I’m so here for a ‘Free Sonia’ campaign around the 40th [anniversary],’ another said.
Another fan theorised: ‘Did nobody else spot this? Sonia’s in the frame for Debbie’s m.u.r.d.e.r. Her DNA is in the pillow and on Debbie, and she was accused sneaking in.’
‘Sonia will be the last person to have signed out after visiting Debbie, Reiss won’t have signed in or out. He kills Debbie and Sonia will be arrested for m.u.r.d.e.r. Calling it now,’ another added.
Sonia recently discovered her latest round of IVF had worked, and she was pregnant – however, will she end up having the baby behind bars?
