Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) made a huge announcement to Callum Highway (Tony Clay) in Wednesday’s (July 24) episode of EastEnders.
In recent episodes of the BBC One soap, Phil has started to experience loneliness. With Ben (Max Bowden) in prison, Louise (Tilly Keeper) living elsewhere, and little Raymond and Albie ultimately being under the care of Sharon (Letitia Dean) and Denise (Diane Parish), Phil’s life isn’t as busy as what is used to be.
Previously, the Mitchell home was full of chatter due to Kat (Jessie Wallace), Tommy (Sonny Kendall) and Bert and Ernie moving in.
However, after Phil slept with Lola’s mum Emma, Kat packed their things and left.
This week, Phil was reminded of his mistakes when Tommy (Sonny Kendall) paid him a visit and spun a story about Kat missing him.
The lies were told because Tommy wanted some new trainers, and also missed Phil being a father figure in his life. When Kat eventually arrived, she laughed in Phil’s face when he spoke about missing their relationship and being sorry for breaking her heart.
In tonight’s instalment, Phil was seen talking to Callum. Clearly wanting to feel more involved in the small amount of family he has left in Walford, Phil told Callum that he’s bought him, Kathy (Gillian Taylforth) and Lexi (Isabella Brown) some plane tickets to America.
To tie in with Lexi’s birthday, Phil said they can visit the USA for a holiday and also see Ben, who is in prison over there.
Callum was incredibly grateful but somewhat taken aback when Phil announced they’d all be going next week, as he wasn’t sure if he’d be able to get the time off work.
Phil’s response was to tell Callum if he can find time to fix his hair before some work photographs, he can find the time to go to America.
We’re pretty sure that’s not how it works but hey, Callum’s been given some free tickets to the States – he definitely won’t be complaining again.
