Ella Forster (Paula Lane) has been left heartbroken after losing her baby in Emmerdale.
In recent weeks, fans of the ITV soap discovered that child-killer Ella was expecting with her brief romance Dr Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson).
The revelation shattered Liam, as he’d also recently discovered that on her 11th birthday, Ella murdered her best friend.
The revelation brought back horrific memories of his own late teenage daughter Leanna’s (Mimi Slinger) death. Who can forget when she was killed by devious Meena Jutla (Paige Sandhu)?
Last week, Liam remained adamant that the best thing Ella could do would be to terminate the pregnancy and leave the village. He even confided in Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) about his fears for the unborn child’s safety once it was born.
However, Cain did encourage him to embrace the chance of being a father again.
The trust between the two went firmly out of the window.
Later, in the salon, Ella spoke with Mandy Dingle (Lisa Riley) about how she intended to keep the baby – despite Liam’s protests that he wanted a paternity test.
In tonight’s episode there was no change. Paddy Dingle (Dominic Brunt) found Liam tending to Leanna’s grave and he expressed his earlier concerns again.
Later, Ella was preparing to head to her appointment at the hospital when her taxi cancelled on her. Liam rushed to her rescue, apologising for his earlier treatment and for once it seemed lime he was warming to the idea of being a dad.
During the scan, the monographer became concerned as they couldn’t find a foetus. Liam jumped to the conclusion that she had lied about the pregnancy and rushed out.
Ella was traumatised and struggled to understand where the baby she became so convinced she was carrying had gone. As she wandered out of the room, the doctors rushed to find her but she was long gone.
In the village, Liam confessed to Paddy that he felt he’d lost another child and wanted Ella out of the village.
She arrived back and bumped into Manpreet Sharma (Rebecca Sarker), who had been contacted by the hospital. It was Manpreet who had to break the news that Ella had suffered what is known as an anembryonic pregnancy.
This means that a sac and placenta grow, but a baby does not.
Will Liam believe her when she breaks the news?
