Sonia Fowler and Reiss Colwell have got engaged in ominous EastEnders scenes.
The surprising proposal occurred in Thursday’s (August 1) episode as Reiss tried to hide from the Walford gossip
about the insurance money he would collect from his late wife Debbie’s death.
Sonia struggled to cheer up her partner, reminding him that they have a bright future with a baby on the way.
When Sonia off-handedly mentioned they could even get married someday, Reiss misconstrued this as a proposal.
Reiss jumped at the chance to marry Sonia, though she immediately had doubts about whether it was the right timing.
Sonia turned to her former husband Martin Fowler for support, admitting she was unsure whether Reiss was truly ready for marriage again so soon after Debbie’s death.
She also worried about what other Walford residents might say about the engagement. Martin encouraged Sonia to follow her heart no matter what anyone else might think.
“I didn’t think you cared what other people thought,” Martin pointed out, with Sonia agreeing: “No, I don’t!”.
Sonia returned home in a much more hopeful mindset to find Reiss making a genuine marriage proposal. Even though Reiss popped the question with a ring far too small, Sonia joyfully agreed to marry him.
Little does Sonia know that her husband-to-be has very dark secrets that he’s been desperately hiding from her.
Viewers recently saw Reiss kill his comatose wife Debbie as a way to stop her mounting care home bill from going up any further, on top of stealing from Phil Mitchell.
In upcoming scenes, Phil will give Reiss a deadline to pay back what he owes or face the consequences. Can Reiss stop his life from falling apart?
