Soap fans have been left baffled by Cindy Beale’s affair with Junior Knight as they’ve pointed out the EastEnders villainess is romping with her former stepson.
The Walford icon portrayed by Michelle Collins has been far from happy in her marriage
with Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) as she has struggled to keep her attraction to former husband George Knight (Colin Salmon) at bay.
And while the pair have shared secret smooches behind their respective partners’ backs, the former boxer eventually put a stop to what appeared to be a budding affair,
deciding Elaine Peacock (Harriet Thorpe) is the only one for him.
In another turn of events, Cindy Beale found comfort in a man nobody suspected she could ever connect with – George’s son, Junior Knight (Micah Balfour).
The hunk was introduced to life in Walford earlier this year, embarking on plenty of affairs since his Albert Square debut,
breaking the heart of Bianca Jackson with whom he shared a one-night stand.
This week, however, Cindy and Junior were inseparable as they roamed and romped freely No.45, running the risk of getting caught by Ian’s son Bobby Beale (Clay Milner Russell). As the connection seems to develop, BBC One viewers put a damper on the new storyline as they recalled that Junior was technically Cindy’s stepson.
“Isn’t Junior basically Cindy’s step son because she was married to George”, one of them penned on Facebook as they remembered that Cindy once took on the name “Rose” as she became romantically involved with George, the father of her two daughters, Anna and Gina.
At the time, Cindy was enrolled in the witness protection program as she tried to escape her vengeful former cellmate. George had already welcomed Junior, his first child, with his previous partner.
The detail led another soap fan to add: “But ain’t Bobby dating his stepsister. Cindy is his step mum, her daughter is dating Bobby.” While some viewers argued there was “no blood relation”, many fans of the BBC One show couldn’t move past the backstory. “The fact that he’s her daughter’s brother is bad enough”, an amused TV watcher wrote. One then responded: “Like that’s going to stop the cougar… she’s old enough to be his Nan!”
Another shared: “It makes my stomach crawl, watching them 2 together. It’s sick!” One fan then teased further upheaval in the storyline, with George likely to find out everything: “Cindy is one of those who gets bored with people, lack of respect for herself and all who are involved, she’s got low self-esteem. Imagine when George finds out.”
In spoilers for next week, Peter Beale is annoyed that Bobby Beale was promoted to manager at Beale’s Eels, not him and Lauren Branning reasons that there must be another reason Cindy did this as she wouldn’t do Bobby a favour without motive. Thinking of possible scenarios, Peter wrongly assumes it’s down to their family dramas.
It’s not long until Junior overhears Peter, Lauren and Gina speculating about Cindy to which he offers Peter a job on his new contract to keep him out of their way. However, Cindy is incensed to discover Peter is going to work for Junior and offers him the manager’s job at Beale’s Eels, ready to demote Bobby. Yet Cindy’s plan backfires and instead, she orders Junior not to hire Peter but he refuses to rescind his job offer.
Meanwhile, Lauren is left suspicious and she quizzes Cindy on why she’s so determined to stop Peter working with Junior. Desperate to cover her tracks, Cindy tells a lie to discredit Junior and keep her affair secret safe. But could another mix-up change everything?
