Teddy Mitchell is keeping his cards close to his chest but some EastEnders viewers are certain he may have a connection to Chrissie Watts and will play a huge part in bringing her back to Walford… As her ex-husband.
Roland Manookian has been portraying the cryptic character since his first appearance on the BBC One soap earlier this year, as his father Stevie Mitchell reconnected with his estranged son Billy.
While he appears calm, collected and well-intentioned, recent scenes of the London-based programme aired this Monday, August 19, have teased he may have sinister motives for the Mitchells as some soap viewers have speculated he could work hard to take down his cousin Phil Mitchell.
As a second theory suggests Teddy may also be trying to take over the family empire and manipulate Sharon Watts into including him in her own business dealings, more speculation has led fans to believe he could actually be involved with Chrissie Watts.
Christine aka “Chrissie” Watts was another one of Walford’s major antagonists as she’s known as the murderer and widow of Sharon Watts’ father Den and made her first appearance in the fictional borough of Walford in April 2004, when she was looking for Den in the Square.
Tired of her husband’s villainous and cheating ways, Chrissie murdered Den by hitting him over the head with a dog-shaped doorstop, knocking him unconscious. After panicking and trying to cover her tracks with the help of Sam Mitchell and Zoe Slater, Chrissie delivered a final blow and was last seen in Walford in 2005 as she was sentenced to life imprisonment for Den’s murder.
But with actress Tracy-Ann Oberman set to reprise her role for a short spell in upcoming scenes, EastEnders viewers are now certain Teddy will be involved in bringing her back to Walford as he could be her ex-husband, while fans had previously thought she could simply have been after him for some mystery reason.
“I wonder if Teddy has a daughter that we don’t know about or this mystery person is either David Wicks or Chrissie or someone else entirely?”, one soap watcher penned over on X, otherwise known as Twitter. A second echoed: “Why do I feel like Chrissie’s return has something to do with Teddy?”
A third commented: “Anyone else think Chrissie is somehow gonna be Teddys ex wife?”, while a fourth chimed in: “Teddy’s ex-wife is gonna be Chrissie isn’t it?” While this remains to be seen and as mentioned, fans have mainly theorised that Phil Mitchell’s reign over the Square will soon be over as Teddy could introduce a new era for his clan.
“I know this is gonna be controversial as hell, but I’d honestly love for Teddy to cause Phil’s downfall, and properly mark a new era for the show. I think what Teddy represents, someone far more cunning and quietly sinister, but with that Mitchell edge still under the surface, could be an interesting way to evolve the Mitchells beyond Phil when Steve McFadden is ready to bow out”, one fan wrote on Reddit. And plenty of others agreed.
“That certainly seems to be where it’s headed. No question. He seems to be taking a shot at the king. But like they say, ‘if you take a shot at the king, you best not miss’”, one TV viewer warned.
Another jumped in: “I’ve been saying this is where it was heading. Teddy is gonna become the new No1 Mitchell (pardon the pun) and replace Phil. A new era of Mitchells – Billy & Teddy being the new Phil/Grant combo.” But could this be done with Chrissie’s help?
