Chrissie Watts is making an explosive return to Albert Square – as Tracy-Ann Oberman reprises her EastEnders role.
The iconic resident of the Square will make her return in the autumn, nearly two decades after she made her debut on the BBC soap. Chrissie left Walford back in 2005 when she was put in prison for the murder of her husband Den Watts. Fans will remember that, along with Sam Mitchell and Zoe Slater, Chrissie buried Den’s body under the floor of the Queen Vic and she lied about what really happened for months, living with Sharon Watts, Den’s adoptive daughter, and his son Dennis Rickman.
Whilst Sam was initially held for the crime, Grant and Phil Mitchell worked hard to free their sister – and thus Chrissie went down for what happened. She was only there for a year and half but made quite a few enemies! Her return storyline is being kept under wraps but bosses have promised that her return will, of course, be explosive.

Speaking about her return to the Square, Tracy-Ann Oberman said she “jumped” at the chance to come back. Speaking about what’s to come, she teased: “Chrissie Watts was such a great character to play – a victim or a villain. She is a real fan favourite so, when Chris Clenshaw asked me to come back and re-visit her and see what has happened in the last 19 years, I jumped at the chance. The scripts are fantastic and I hope the viewers enjoy her as much as I am enjoying playing her again.”
Chris Clenshaw, Executive Producer, added: “I’m delighted to welcome the immensely talented Tracy-Ann back to the iconic role of Chrissie Watts. Although the character hasn’t been seen on screen for almost twenty years, Chrissie is cemented in EastEnders’ rich history for her murder of Walford’s most infamous villain, and Sharon’s beloved father, Dirty Den. I’m keeping tight-lipped on the exact circumstances relating to her return for the time being, but what I can promise is that it’s never quiet when Chrissie Watts is around.”
Tracy-Ann has already begun filming for her return and will make an appearance in Walford in the autumn. She last appeared on the show back in December 2005, just a year and a half after she first arrived in the Square back in April 2004.
Aside from her tumultuous history with Den Watts, Chrissie Watts also had explosive storylines with other characters during her time on EastEnders. One memorable feud was with the Mitchell family, specifically with Sam Mitchell, Grant Mitchell, and Phil Mitchell. The rivalry between Chrissie and the Mitchell siblings added layers of drama to the show, keeping viewers on the edge of their seats.
Chrissie’s complex character, portrayed by the talented Tracy-Ann Oberman, brought a mix of vulnerability and strength to the screen. Her ability to switch between victim and villain kept audiences guessing about her next move. This versatility is what made Chrissie a fan favorite and her return to Albert Square is highly anticipated.
As EastEnders fans eagerly await Chrissie’s explosive return, speculations and theories about her storyline are circulating online. Will she seek revenge on former enemies? Or will she try to make amends for past wrongdoings? The mystery surrounding Chrissie’s comeback is sure to keep viewers hooked.
Tracy-Ann Oberman’s enthusiasm for reprising her role as Chrissie Watts is evident in her interviews. Her dedication to portraying this iconic character shines through, promising an authentic and gripping performance. The dynamic between Chrissie and other characters, especially Sharon Watts, is expected to bring new twists and turns to the plot.
