EastEnders has aired an emotional departure following a last-minute twist in its early release on BBC iPlayer.
Stevie Mitchell, played by Alan Ford, has bid farewell to Walford in tear-jerking scenes but not before executing a cunning revenge plot against Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden). Billy (Perry Fenwick) was left reeling, after learning the truth about his mother’s death.
He was encouraged to leave his younger son Teddy (Roland Manookian), however, Stevie wasn’t about to allow this to happen and hopped into a taxi to try and make things right. He was also about to get his just-deserts over on Phil – who had set him up for theft.
In the meantime, Teddy attempted to lift Billy’s spirits., but Stevie showed up at The Queen Vic and implored his brother to listen to their father, knowing that otherwise, Stevie wouldn’t back down.

The series veteran confessed that getting to know his grandchildren had been incredibly meaningful to him, adding that he would carry the guilt and shame of his actions for the rest of his life. He went on to express his pride in his sons before leaving them to ponder over his words.
Stevie was later seen outside, eyeballing Phil’s car and warning him about the dangers of alienating his loved ones. In a swift move, he managed to swipe the keys to Phil’s vehicle.

The keys were handed over to Mo Harris (Laila Morse), who sold the car and gave him a hefty sum of money, which Stevie was saving to gift to Billy. When Phil discovered his car was missing, he was livid and reported the theft to the police, who weren’t quick to respond.
Stevie asked Billy if he could bid farewell to Will (Freddie Phillips) and Janet (Grace). He shared some touching words with his grandchildren and had a relatively peaceful goodbye with Billy, leaving the money behind discreetly for them. Stevie then shared an emotional goodbye kiss with a tearful Mo, as they both pondered on what might have been if he could have stayed.

Standing alone and gazing at Billy’s house, Stevie confessed his deep love for Billy, who was also battling his own emotions as he sat with Teddy. Billy soon found the cash, along with a photo of Stevie, himself, and their late brother Charlie from a day out in 1960.
As Phil’s car drama unfolded, Stevie whizzed off in a taxi while grinning to himself. From what we gather, this seems to be a final hurrah for Stevie, but who knows, if we might see him again….
