EastEnders’ Navin Chowdhry has revealed his character Nish Panesar is “more dangerous than ever” as he teased his explosive exit.
The actor made his soap debut in 2022 playing the nasty businessman. As the patriarch of the Panesar clan, Nish has become one of the soap’s biggest villains.
From attempted murder to abusing his wife Suki, his time in Walford has not been short of drama. Especially at the moment, as he recently made his return to the soap with some big news for his family: he is dying.
Fans will recall how Nish was booted out of the family home earlier his year. But the bad guy arrived back in Walford – much to the shock of his estranged family and neighbours.
Nish’s son Ravi put their feud in the past and rallied around him – but the same couldn’t be said for his ex-wife Suki. His other son Vinny also refused to have anything to do with him. However, he later had a change of heart and promised Nish to be there for him, especially as their days are limited.
But in a big twist, it was revealed that Vinny is playing Nish, with the help do Suki, in a bid to make sure he leaves him the Panesar empire.
Now, actor Navin has hinted at an explosive soap exit as the bad guy “has nothing to lose”. Speaking to Radio Times, he said: “It’s up to the viewers what they choose to believe, but if illness is going to consume Nish, then he’s not going to go quietly.
“Look at what he did when he was of good health – he behaved so recklessly and had no moral compass. There were no limits beforehand, imagine if he knew people are betraying him behind the scenes – he’s got nothing to lose and could be more dangerous than he’s ever been…”
Navin has also previously shared that fans often blur the line between his evil character and who he is in real life. So much so, that he’s had to have words with producers.
Speaking to Daily Star, he said: “There have been moments when we’ve had scenes and I’ll speak to the producer and I’ll say, ‘I’m going to have to go on the school run and you’re making me beat up every woman on Albert Square’. I’ve been scared.”
