In forthcoming Emmerdale episodes, Matty Barton’s life is in jeopardy as a fellow cellmate is closing in on him after discovering he is transgender. Since his imprisonment for inadvertently stabbing Samson Dingle, Matty has been desperately trying to hide his identity. He knew he would become a target if the other prisoners found out he was transgender. Recently, Matty found an ally in a man named Les, who listened intently as Matty opened up about his past. Les assured Matty he would keep his secret but warned that not everyone in the prison would be as understanding.
One of these men is Robbo, who remains unaware of Matty’s transgender status until Amy Wyatt makes a grave mistake. Believing Robbo to be Les, she unintentionally reveals Matty’s secret during a conversation. Amy walks away feeling good about herself, oblivious to the danger she has now placed Matty in.
Meanwhile, tension rises in the Dingle household. Sam and Lydia are at odds as a new week begins. Sam wants Samson to flee and avoid punishment, while Lydia is adamant that Samson should face the consequences of his actions. She feels it’s wrong to break the law, having already done so herself in the past. Karen Blake advises that Samson must speak the truth and that Matty must be freed from prison to neutralize any threat he may be under and allow Samson to face the appropriate punishment. Lydia remains unaware of the full implications of this decision.
As the storyline progresses, we see that Lydia, who has often been the moral compass, must now make some difficult moral choices. She thwarts Samson’s planned escape, convincing him to report to the authorities. When Samson eventually admits the truth about the stabbing, Sam becomes enraged with his wife. Actor Sam Hall explains that while Samson faces various pressures, his strong moral convictions will eventually guide him to tell the truth.
Back in prison, Matty learns of Samson’s confession and finally feels hopeful. However, as he is led back to his cell, he finds Robbo waiting. Overcome with terror, Matty realizes his time in prison is far from over as Robbo makes violent threats. The tension rises as Matty, confined to his cell, tries to ignore the transphobic abuse from other prisoners, completely scared for his life.
Cain Dingle returns to the village to ensure Samson doesn’t run away again, causing tensions between him and Samson to escalate. Moira and Amy anxiously await news while Samson is left alone with Cain. Sam believes Samson should stand up for himself, especially in this situation, and understands the audience’s frustration, urging Samson to do what’s right.
As all this unfolds, Amy, unaware of the danger she has put Matty in, returns home to share the news of Matty’s hopeful outlook. Will Matty be alright? Emmerdale fans are in for a suspenseful week as the storyline takes a dark turn.
Due to a scheduling change, Emmerdale won’t air during its regular time slot this Friday night. ITV will live stream the UEFA Euro 2024 games from Munich, with Germany playing Scotland. Despite this interruption, viewers can still anticipate a ton of drama. Next week promises unsettling moments featuring Matty Barton in jeopardy.
