Moira Dingle’s (Natalie J Robb) undiagnosed illness reaches an explosive conclusion in Emmerdale that will see her grab a shotgun and fire, before burning down the barn.
Oooh it’s a biggie of a week in Emmerdale, and who survives it is anyone’s guess. It’s all thanks to Moira’s strange behaviours and shocking seizures, which left undiagnosed prove deadly in a way no one could anticipate.
News of her so called ‘kiss’ with Nate – which was actually her having a mini seizure – has reached Cain (Jeff Hordley). Moira plays it down, knowing that nothing happened, but her nonchalance gets his back up, which in turn gets her back up and she storms out.
But it’s Nate (Jurell Carter) who gets the brunt of it, as Cain tracks him down and beats seven bells out of him. Moira is disgusted to hear of Cain’s thuggery against his own son, all over a lie to boot. Cain rages at Moira, who is hit with a sudden touch of déjà vu, and her reaction is to slap Cain across the chops.
Always ready to twist the knife, especially after being accused of having it away with Cain, Ruby (Beth Cordingly) arrives at the barn to stick her oar in. But something’s up – Moira isn’t rising to her nasty jibes, which is no fun for Ruby.
Instead, Moira is in her own world and spills tractor fuel, which is when Moira suffers an episode and things begin to blur. Suddenly, Ruby morphs into Moira’s old nemesis, Emma Barton. Fearing for her life, or perhaps out of anger, Moira raises a shot gun and aims it.
Speaking of the moment Ruby enters the barn, actress Beth Cordingly told metro.co.uk: ‘She sees me and starts calling me ‘Emma’. So very quickly I realise something is not right. Moira picks up a gun, at which point obviously Ruby starts panicking. Genuinely she is really scared.’
Moira then padlocks the barn to stop ‘Emma’ from escaping before pulling the trigger. The bullet misses Ruby, but hits a lightbulb and causes sparks– in a wooden barn where fuel has been spilled.
Ruby lunges at Moira to wrestle the gun from her maddening grip, but in the ensuing violence, Ruby takes a blow to the head and hits the ground like a sack of spuds.
The commotion shocks Moira out of her daze and she finds herself stood over Ruby’s lifeless body – as a raging fire takes hold. Terrified, she freezes.
Natalie J Robb explains: ‘Ruby says something quite similar to what Emma said to her just before she tried to kill her in the barn. Very triggered, loses the plot a bit and doesn’t know where she’s at.’
That loss of the plot could prove deadly for both of them, and will prove deadly for someone.
Mack (Lawrence Robb) notices the smoke and calls on John to help him investigate. Cain and Caleb are called, along with Chas, and they all arrive to a burning barn. Cain’s anger evaporates as Chas panics, and they realise it’s a race against time to save anyone trapped inside.
But before they can motivate themselves into action, the barn explodes – and someone doesn’t make it out alive.
Natalie J Robb teased the tragic outcome for one Emmerdale local: ‘There is an explosion, and maybe not everybody gets out of that explosion…’ Who dies in the great Emmerdale fire of 2024?
