GB News presenter Eamonn Holmes is working hard to get his mobility back after spinal issues left him unable to walk properly.
GB News presenter Eamonn Holmes has issued a health update to fans as he struggles to regain his mobility, which he has suffered due to serious back issues.
He took to Instagram to share a video with his 800,000 followers, which showed him hard at work on a special machine designed to help him regain muscle memory in his legs.
Looking drained as he spoke to the camera he showed the clock and the machine and said: “Coming up to 30 minutes on my anti-gravity treadmill. It’s been tough today,” he admitted.
“Not every day is easy but some days are. It’s all about muscle memory and it trains my legs which don’t form a connection with my brain….This is what we’re trying to do today for half an hour,” he explained.
His followers were quick to jump in the comments to offer the award-winning presenter encouragement. Impressed by his efforts, they implored him to “keep going” and called him a “trouper”.
@leigh_boulton write: “Well done … keep going … excellent work. Great to see you and Isabel together on the telly this week. Always a special treat to see you present with the legend Anne Diamond.”
@lyntracy4 was equally encouraging writing: “Keep going Eamonn. You will get there eventually. Good days and bad but the good will get more and more.”
@hayleysparkestv exclaimed: “Trouper! Well done to you, getting stronger slowly but surely, taking it a step at a time.”
@lindaann.turner praised him writing: “Good luck Eamonn – so hard for you but it just shows what a great guy you are not only for doing this but sharing it to others who may be struggling.”
@mcoct1234 pointed out: “You’re getting it done that’s the main thing. Every day will make you stronger…” followed by an applause emoji.
Meanwhile, @elaine.kirkman.9 sympathised: “Well done Eamonn, keep going. I’ve had a knee replacement so I know how hard it is. You’re amazing.”
Eamonn has endured a series of health issues over the years, including a double hip replacement and a battle with shingles. However, the severe back pain he began experiencing two years ago has proven to be one of his most challenging health hurdles to date.
His most difficult health challenge began to surface in early 2021. The broadcaster made the painful disclosure on social media, penning: “A month ago I did something to my back. I don’t know how I did it getting into the car, getting out of a car, getting out of bed, whatever. I’ve got an MRI scan but the trouble is everything closes for Easter. I haven’t got it analysed yet but what I do know is I can’t sleep at night.”
He later found out he had three slipped discs, the soft pads between the bones in his spine were protruding outward. These difficulties were impacting Eamonn’s mobility in his right leg, causing him to utilise a stick for walking.
Undergoing surgery in September 2022, Eamonn revealed: “It went well – the doctor tidied things up and generally the pain has gone which is brilliant. The flip side is that it has now left me with an issue in my left leg, which would collapse unexpectedly.”
However, since then the veteran morning presenter has struggled to regain full mobility. He has been frequently pictured using a stick to aid him when walking and has also been forced to resort to using a mobility scooter on occasion. At the recent TRIC Awards, he was using a walker to get around.
