Soaps will be thrown into chaos again next week as sporting events continue to dominate the schedule.
Emmerdale, Coronation Street and EastEnders fans have all been left frustrated by the recent changes to their routines.
As the beloved ITV and BBC One soaps were cancelled on multiple occasions to make way for the Euro 2024 and, more recently, Wimbledon.
But as both events are drawing to a close this Sunday, July 14, regular soap viewers have been asked to remain patient as another set of changes will hit the box from Tuesday, July 9.
On Monday, all soaps will air as usual, with EastEnders airing over on BBC Two.
Although fans will be treated to an hour of Coronation Street as Joel Deering (portrayed by former Hollyoaks star Calum Lill) seems to be looming.
Tuesday, July 9, will leave regular EastEnders fans with no soap fix as the London-based program won’t return to our screens before another two days. Emmerdale and Corrie watchers will, on the other hand, be able to tune into their favourite shows over on ITV at their regular times. Unfortunately, the Manchester-based drama will only be aired twice this week.
The second semi-finals of the UEFA European Championship will then deprive soap fans of all three programmes on Wednesday, July 10, but Thursday will see Emmerdale’s usual hour-long instalment air. EastEnders will also return to its regular host, BBC One, as fans will be treated to a double bill from 8.15pm.
Finally, the Yorkshire-based program will make a return on ITV at the earlier time of 7pm, before being followed by the Women’s Euro qualifier match at 7.30pm on ITV. Both Corrie and EastEnders have been scrapped from the schedule.
This comes as soap watchers are eagerly waiting to know what’s ahead for residents of the Dales, Weatherfield and Walford. Over in Emmerdale, Belle Dingle’s chilling coercive control ordeal will be taking a turn as Tom King continues to isolate her.
Elsewhere, Laurel Thomas and Jai Sharma’s marriage hangs by a thread while Matty Barton is due to face justice after being wrongly accused of stabbing Samson Dingle. Meanwhile in Corrie, and as mentioned, viewers have been predicting Joel Deering’s downfall but will it play out as they expect it to?
Finally, the Mitchell family could erupt into a row at any point with revelations being dropped on an overwhelmed Billy Mitchell. Reis Colwell, on the other hand, could be facing comeuppance as his own secrets could finally come to light.
Soap fans will once again face disruptions to their viewing schedules next week as sporting events take over the airwaves. Emmerdale, Coronation Street, and EastEnders devotees have already been dealing with changes due to Euro 2024 and Wimbledon, and more alterations are on the way.
As Euro 2024 and Wimbledon come to an end this Sunday, July 14, soap viewers should brace themselves for a new round of schedule shake-ups starting on Tuesday, July 9.
Monday will see all soaps airing as usual, with EastEnders moving over to BBC Two. Coronation Street fans can look forward to an hour-long episode featuring Joel Deering, played by the talented Calum Lill.
On Tuesday, July 9, EastEnders fans will have to wait two days for their next fix, while Emmerdale and Corrie followers can tune in to their favorite shows on ITV at the regular times.
Wednesday, July 10, will see all three soaps cancelled again due to the UEFA European Championship semi-finals. However, Emmerdale will return on Thursday with a special one-hour episode. EastEnders will also make a comeback on BBC One with a double bill starting at 8.15pm. Meanwhile, Emmerdale will air on ITV at 7pm before the Women’s Euro qualifier match at 7.30pm, leaving Corrie and EastEnders off the schedule.
Soap fans eagerly anticipating upcoming storylines will not be disappointed. Emmerdale will continue to explore Belle Dingle’s coercive control story, while tensions rise in Laurel Thomas and Jai Sharma’s marriage. In Corrie, viewers are on the edge of their seats waiting to see what happens to Joel Deering and the Mitchell family.
